Presentation watch

Post by Mike Williams » Wed May 27, 2015 11:26 am

Spotted this and thought it worth mentioning.

The Auction House of Bridport, sale date 29th May 2015, Lot 186

An important 18ct gold open-faced pocket watch by Clifford Lupton, Cornhill, London 1878 being a presentation piece to the engineer who raised the paddle steamer S.S. Edith which sank after a collision with the Duchess of Sutherland off Holyhead in 1875. Attached to the watch is a 9ct gold fob & key. The inscription to the inner case reads "To Druitt Halpin Esq. engineer of the Victorian Craving Dock Co. from the London & North Western Railway Co. in recognition of skill & energy displayed - amidst much difficulty and anxiety- in successfully raising their steamer "Edith" sunk off Holyhead Sept 1875 - February 1878.

No, not suggesting it should be in the LNWRS Archives, but wanted to record its existence somewhere!
